Heart Rag Wreath Tutorial

As Valentine's Day approaches, my daughter keeps asking me
to buy some decorations.

So, I decided we could make this heart rag wreath instead.

It was so much fun, I wanted to share!

If you have a little one that can tie,
let them join in on this project!

Heart Rag Wreath Tutorial

Grab your materials and let's get started!
This project will be finished before you know it!

The only items I purchased were the wire wreath form and
some optional ribbon...the rest I had on hand in my craft stash :)

Materials:
(found mine at Joann Fabrics for $4.99)
Scissors
tape measure
1 1/2 to 2 yards of fabric
(I used scraps - woven, cotton, tulle, even ribbon....)
Ribbon for hanging (optional)
Tip: If you don't have a stash of scraps that will work for this,
go to your local fabric store (Joann Fabrics, Walmart, etc.) and
buy a 1/4 yard in various pinks, reds, prints, solids.
Fat quarters work great for this, too!!
Now for the work!
We will be cutting 6" x 1" strips from all of the fabrics
Measure with your tape measure.
It doesn't have to be exact since this is a 'rag' wreath, after all!
Begin cutting until you have huge piles of fabric strip.
Tip:  If you have a large piece of fabric,
cut it into a 12" wide piece and fold in half.
This will allow you to cut two 6" x 1" pieces at a time. You can save quite a bit of time this way!
Once you are done cutting, it is time to tie and tie and tie...
Place the fabric strip under one of the wires.
Fold one end over and through the other end.

Pull tight.

Tip:  You can repeat this to tie a knot,
but I didn't bother because they hold pretty tight with one tie.

Now for extra pizzaz...you can add themed ribbon!
This is obviously optional!

I bought this ribbon at my local Michael's for a couple dollars.
It is 3/8" x 3 yd

Cut 6" pieces.
Tie the ribbon in various places within wire frame.

You are almost done...it is time to hang your masterpiece!

You can hang it directly on the wire frame or
you may choose to do what I did and
hang it on your choice of ribbon.

I cut the length I wanted, in this case 24" but you can fit it to your liking.

I found this 1 1/2" red and pink chevron ribbon at my local Michael's also.
It was about $3.00 with my 40% off coupon (get your coupon here)

Tie it in a knot on the top wire on both sides!  That easy!
Hang it inside or on a covered porch (it won't last if it gets wet!).
Enjoy!
